Class Overview

Welcome to a new and exciting year at Armstrong. I am thrilled to be a part of the Armstrong family and community. This is a special year for your children. It is the beginning of their career at Armstrong, meeting new friends and developing lifelong skills to help prepare them for the future.

Purpose of the Class

The sixth grade social studies program focuses on World Geography and Ancient Civilizations. We will learn how and why civilizations developed and their contributions to society. As with any social studies course, the ultimate goal is to help students learn about their past so they can become knowledgeable and active citizens. Homework

Homework will be assigned occasionally. It will mostly consist of completing incomplete classwork and current events. Grading

  • Grading is done on a point system. All graded items are given a point value.

  • 65% of overall grade will be comprised from summative assessments.

  • 35% of overall grade will be comprised from formative assessments.

Summative Assessments are assessments OF learning. They assess students on what they learned after an instructional period.

Formative Assessments are assessments FOR learning. These assessments happen during instruction. They allow me to see how the students are doing with the material.

Classroom Rules

As a school, Armstrong follows the ROCKS matrix.  All students are expected to be Respectful, Organized, Cooperative, Kind, and Safe.  These behaviors look different in different settings. Posters can be found throughout the school that indicate what is expected in each location.  In our classroom, the expectations are clearly displayed on the board.
